sceneid.net allows you to log in to sites that support the OpenID protocol, using your SceneID account. They don't get to snoop on your password, and if they're set up right you can share your email address and other details with them without having to retype them all the time.
If you don't have a SceneID, get one from scene.org.
Here's the deal. scene.org have unexpectedly closed off access to the SceneID web service to outside IP addresses. This might have been a mistake, or it might not. I'm trying to chase it up with them right now.
So in the meantime, here's what I'm doing: to verify your login details, I attempt to log in with them through the form on the scene.org website itself. I then throw away that session immediately, along with any record of your password. In real terms this is the same as what the proper web service does anyway, but I can understand if you don't like this idea. (Which is why I'm telling you this in a big red box.) If so, I suggest you don't enter your login details here... use a different OpenID provider instead.
Yes, it sucks. Hoping it can be sorted real soon...
