Frequency shuts Friday programme as storm risk reaches the stages

FM4 Frequency cancelled the rest of its Friday programme in St. Pölten after strong wind created a safety risk around the stages. The festival first cleared the performance areas and dropped individual sets, including Tom Odell and Sub Focus, before ending the remaining programme across every stage and indoor hall at about 22:00 on 21 August.

ORF Niederösterreich reported forecast gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour and relayed the organiser’s instructions for guests to secure tents and avoid exposed structures and trees. The festival resumed on Saturday as planned. According to the organiser statement reproduced by local outlet MeinBezirk, people holding Friday day wristbands were admitted again on Saturday without another ticket.

The response matters beyond the missing sets. Electronic and crossover festivals increasingly depend on temporary structures, tightly sequenced artist travel and weather-exposed campsites. Once wind risk reaches rigging and suspended equipment, keeping an indoor floor open can also complicate crowd movement, which helps explain why the shutdown expanded beyond the outdoor stages.

An ORF follow-up said emergency services recorded no major incident and described the overall operational balance as positive. That does not erase the disruption, but it separates the safety decision from speculation about a wider festival failure.
