BRRRDS+Y turn improvisation into an imaginary ecosystem on debut album GLASHAUS

BRRRDS+Y will release their debut album GLASHAUS through Vienna label MAMKA on 1 November. The eight-part record is already available for preorder, with two tracks streaming in advance. Its four musicians — Christine Gnigler, Maja Osojnik, Sara Zlanabitnig and Milena Georgieva, also known as yuzu — connect acoustic wind instruments and voices with field recordings, modular synthesis and live electronics. The project expands the trio BRRRDS, formed by Gnigler, Osojnik and Zlanabitnig in 2022, by adding Georgieva as +Y. According to the official album notes, the group works between improvisation, composition and shared sonic decision-making. GLASHAUS gives that process a loose conceptual environment: earth, water, spores, mist and flocking behaviour become prompts for music in which individual parts continually change their relationship to the whole. That idea also shapes the physical edition. MAMKA lists a limited transparent vinyl run with 180 sleeves, labels and covers printed by hand by the musicians; each cover carries a unique print. The credits place the recording sessions in Vienna and Maigen in 2025. Osojnik contributed field recordings and arrangement and mixed the album with Matija Schellander, who also mastered it. The artwork and design are credited to BRRRDS+Y. The announcement is a useful local story because the release joins several parts of Austria’s experimental network. It is issued by a Vienna label, made by a quartet working across contemporary composition, improvisation and electronics, and presented through two established Austrian platforms. Music Unlimited 40 confirms BRRRDS+Y for its afternoon programme at the Landesmusikschule Wels on 7 November. The official XX Y X page separately lists a live album release at Westbahnstudios in Vienna on 7 December. MAMKA gives the Vienna start time as 19:30. For SCENE:ID, GLASHAUS is noteworthy less as another catalogue entry than as a compact example of how local experimental infrastructure works: a small label, a hand-produced object, an improvising ensemble and two performance contexts reinforce one another. The advance tracks and detailed production credits provide enough concrete material to understand the project before release without turning the story into promotional copy.
