le_mol release split split with THE ZEW
The Vienna duo’s sixth album brings a guest voice into its loop-driven sound; a B72 show follows on 6 November.
Vienna duo le_mol released their sixth album, split split, through Noise Appeal Records on 16 October. Alongside the duo’s instrumental work, the record features fellow Vienna artist THE ZEW on “split tongue”. A presentation at B72 in Vienna is announced for 6 November.
Raimund Schlager and Sebastian Götzendorfer founded le_mol in 2012. Their method uses several loop stations and effects pedals to build arrangements that extend beyond a conventional two-person setup. The label places their work between post-rock, art rock and ambient; the electronic processing is part of how the music is made, rather than a separate club-oriented identity.
The collaboration gives this release a concrete local connection beyond its place of origin. THE ZEW contributes lyrics and vocals to “split tongue”, introducing a voice into a largely instrumental project. In his review for Beatblogger, Walter Kraus identifies the guest appearance and discusses the electronic elements of the duo’s post-rock approach.
There is also a visual collaboration. The label credits Vienna artist Hanna Hollmann with collage and monotype artwork, connecting the record’s idea of division to its physical presentation. The vinyl edition includes a printed inner sleeve and download code.
For SCENE:ID, the useful story is this meeting of practices within Vienna: loop-based instrumental music, a guest songwriter and visual art share one release. It illustrates a local scene operating across musical formats without requiring every project to fit a single genre. The announced B72 presentation will bring the album back to a Vienna stage.
