smallforms seeks solo sound performances for its paid 2027 Vienna programme

Applications close on 11 October. Selected solo artists receive a €400 fee, with an optional recording session for a digital label release.

Vienna's smallforms has an open call for solo performances in its March–December 2027 programme. Applications close on 11 October 2026. The organiser confirms a €400 artist fee and sets of approximately 30–60 minutes, making this a concrete paid opportunity for musicians and sound artists planning next year's work.

The call welcomes musicians, sound artists and performers working with sound. It seeks varied approaches to live performance, including voice, noise and instrumental practice. Each proposal must involve one artist. Applicants should email audio and video links, a proposal of no more than 600 characters and a short CV to call@smallforms.org. Those interested in an additional recording session should say so in their application.

That recording option gives the opportunity a life beyond the performance itself: the organiser says the session can lead to a digital release through the smallforms label. Selection, rather than simply submitting an application, remains the necessary next step. The call does not specify travel or accommodation support, whether the fee is gross or net, or an exact deadline time; artists should clarify those points with the organiser.

smallforms combines a music label with a monthly Vienna performance platform. Its official background page dates the project to 2016, founded by musician and sound engineer Gustavo Petek, with Alisa Beck joining the artistic team in 2018. Petek handles the label and recordings, while the programme and collaborations are developed jointly. That structure connects presenting sound in public with documenting it, rather than treating concerts and recordings as separate activities.

For Vienna's experimental and electronic scene, the relevant development is access to that infrastructure. A published fee, a defined solo format and the possibility of a label recording give independent practitioners terms they can assess before applying. Julian Rubisch's opportunities page also lists the call, but the official organiser remains the authority for its conditions.

SCENE:ID sees the value here in the practical route from an independent proposal to paid presentation and recorded work. This is an application opportunity, not an announced lineup. The immediate next step is the 11 October deadline; the selected programme and any resulting releases remain to be announced.
